--Recruitment--
What is Rush?
Rush (Recruitment) is a series of social events that takes place during the beginning of each semester, allowing potential new members to become more familiar with the sisters of Sigma Phi Omega. It's also an opportunity for us to get to formally introduce ourselves and to get to know you in a more casual environment. Rush allows you to understand more of who we are, what we do, and whether or not you see yourself becoming a part of our sisterhood.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I rush?
Rush is a great way to meet new people, especially for those attending college for their first year! Our events are fun and completely non-obligatory to girls rushing. Also, participating in rush allows potential new members to see that Sigmas don't necessarily fit into the typical "sorority stereotypes". Rather, each member adds her own quirkiness to the sisterhood.
What does it mean to be an Open Chapter?
The Kappa Chapter of Sigma Phi Omega is an Open Chapter. We recruit full time students who are taking at least 12 credit hours at any of the Universities or Community Colleges in the Dallas area. How much does it cost to rush? All of our events are completely free! We'll even provide transportation if needed. What is a Big Sister and Pledge Mom?A big sister and pledge mom are girls who help guide you through the semester. Each girl will get their own big sister and each class will get one pledge mom. |
What is a bid?
A bid is an extension to join our sorority. In order to qualify, you must attend at least 2 rush events, fill out an application, have at least a 2.5 gpa, and complete an interview. We extend bids via phone call after our last rush event, which you may either accept or decline. Why Sigma Phi Omega?
Being in a sorority not only allows young women to create strong friendships and a lifetime of memories, it also helps them adjust to college life and expand their network of peers. In addition, we strive to improve academic and leadership skills while also giving back to the community. |
